Depending on the nature of the affliction, Dr. Choy may prescribe different courses of treatment depending on the severity and the causes. For patients that suffer from allergies such as food or pet allergies, regular allergy injections called immunotherapy may be called for. These injections are given at specified times over a period of time to achieve a desired level of effectiveness. Generally these injections are given once or twice a week initially and then are given less frequently as time progresses.
Many
patients that are suffering from asthma, whether it is exercise induced asthma or allergy related will see relief from a fast acting oral inhaler like Alupent or may benefit from regular doses from a steroid inhaler like Advair. These treatments open up the airways and allow a patient to breath normally again.
