streamvalleyvet-com.jpgStream Valley Veterinary Hospital offers up-to-date, cutting-edge medical services for companion animals as well as personal care and a sense of community that has become all-too-rare in today’s America.

The focus at SVVH is on smaller animals – dogs, cats, birds and exotics such as reptiles. The practice is located on an acre of land in rural Virginal that has turned out to be a hit with pets and owners alike. The hospital was founded in 2000 and remains under the management of Mary Corey, DVM. A native of Washington DC, Dr. Corey was literally raised "inside the Beltway." After receiving her B.S. Degree in Biochemistry, she attended the Virginia-Maryland College of Veterinary Medicine, completing her studies in 1988.

For the next ten years, Dr. Corey was a staff member at a number of New Jersey veterinary facilities, returning to Northern Virginia in 1998. After spending two years as a veterinary ER Technician at the Regional Veterinary Referral Center in Springfield, Dr. Corey finally opened her own practice.

Dr. Corey was recently joined by Dr. Susan Whitford, a recent graduate of the V-M Regional College of Veterinary Medicine. The hospital also maintains a full staff of paramedics, groomers and even an obedience trainer.

SVVH is a full-service facility that offers grooming and day-spa services as well as obedience training and the usual medical services, as well as kennel and boarding.

One unique service offered through SVVH is euthanasia at the pet’s home. Understanding the difficulty in having to euthanize a companion that is too old and/or sick or injured to go on, the staff attempts to ease the transition by visiting the pet owner’s home, so their companion can pass on in familiar, comfortable surroundings. If desired, SVVH can also arrange for cremation or recommend pet burial facilities.

Those who are considering the adoption of a pet will find helpful information at the SVVH website, including advice and links to pet adoption resources. SVVH is open Monday through Friday from 7 AM to 7 PM and 8 AM to 3 PM on Saturdays; an online appointment book and pharmacy is currently under construction on the hospital website. SVVH does not provide after-hours emergency services, but recommends that people call the Animal Emergency Critical Care at The Life Center at 703-777-5755 should such a need arise.
