At Bodyworks, a trained professional staff works closely with clients in order to develop an individualized course of fitness training with the goal of helping them achieve top physical and mental well-being. The regimen is determined largely by the client’s own specific fitness goals.
Bodyworks was established in 1990 by Radonna Patterson, who started out as a choreographer and dancer. Her own experience with a serious back injury inspired her to study a range of therapeutic rehabilitation techniques, from which she has created a unique approach to the treatment of those who require physical therapy. Ms. Patterson offers a combination of movement exercises and massage therapy in order to address the underlying causes of pain, not just the outward symptoms.
Since its inception, Bodyworks has gained a wide reputation for excellence that has attracted an excellent staff of certified massage and body movement therapists.
Ms. Patterson is certified in Pilates, or Contrology which focuses on the stabilization of key muscles through a combination of mental and physical exercise which focus on posture and alignment. This is important, because of a recent court action in which the term "Pilates" was generic and therefore cannot be copyrighted. This means that virtually any amateur can legally claim to be a "Pilates" instructor with absolutely no training or qualifications. Ms. Patterson’s certification in Pilates is patients’ assurance that they are receiving instruction from an credentialed, qualified practitioner.
Pilates sessions are taught in classes of no more than four people; however, if preferred, individualized one-on-one instruction is available.
In addition, Ms. Patterson is trained and qualified in the Gyrotonic Expansion System, which consists of specialized exercises performed with proprietary equipment that aid in building strength and flexibility.
Other services offered at Bodyworks include the diagnosis and treatment of pain and discomfort through multiple modalities based on determining the underlying cause of pain. Patients who suffer from sports or accident injuries as well as those who are undergoing rehabilitation are encouraged to call for an appointment at their convenience.
Massage therapy is also part of what is available at Bodyworks; patients can choose from Swedish, Cranio-facial and deep tissue massage therapy.
When not working with patients at Bodyworks, Ms. Patterson continues to teach and perform as a dancer and choreographer.
