Dr. Watson was well known in the last century as the fictional chronicler of the cases and exploits of the equally fictional detective, Sherlock Holmes. At Dr. Watson's Family Dentistry however, you’ll find that proper dental care is no mystery – nor is it any longer akin to medieval torture. In fact, the modern Dr. Watson DDS – whose office is located just north of Newport along Virginia’s scenic peninsula area – has equipped his office and incorporated practices that make accommodations for people traumatized by memories of painful drilling and yanking.

 

Dr. Watson is well aware of the fears many people have about dental treatment, offering conscious sedation and sedatives that allow patients to sleep through their treatment as well as good old-fashioned nitrous oxide (more commonly known as “laughing gas”). The staff provides in-depth education for prospective patients regarding their treatment that includes the use of “Before and After” photos as well as the Casey Educational System that consists of brief video summaries of the procedure to be performed.

 

In addition, Dr. Watson’s practice takes extensive steps to protect their patients. All staff members are certified in CPR, and Dr. Watson himself is certified in Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS, also required training for EMT personnel). In addition to the latest dental instruments – all of which are sterilized using cutting-edge techniques – Dr. Watson’s office is equipped with emergency medical equipment and a defibrillator.

 

Dr. Watson himself has impressive credentials. Since receiving his D.D.S. degree from the Medical College of Virginia, Dr. Watson continues to take many hours of additional training each year in order to keep up with the latest techniques and technology. He is the recipient of several prestigious awards in his field, including the Academy of General Dentistry’s Fellowship Award.

 

The Watson clinic is a full-service dental facility that offers both corrective and cosmetic dental procedures as well as sports dentistry. These services include tooth bleaching (whitening), bonding, bridgework and crowning, complete and partial dentures, endodontics (root canal treatment), implants, periodontics (treatment of gum disorders), porcelain veneers and the creation of nightguards for those who grind their teeth at night (known as “bruxism”).
