Dr. Portnoy has been practicing in the Greater New York Metro Area since 1993, and specializes in Ontological Surgery of the Head and Neck as well as Endocrine Surgery, Laryngology and Reconstructive Surgery. Dr. Portnoy did his undergraduate studies at Brandeis University and completed his initial medical studies at the George Washington University School of Medicine, followed by an Internship at North Shore University Hospital and Residency at the New York Eye and Ear Infirmary in 1992. The following year, Dr. Portnoy was the recipient of a Fellowship in Head and Neck and Microvascular Reconstructive Surgery at Pittsburgh's Mercy Hospital. Prior to opening Chelsea Ears, Nose & Throat at the beginning of 2004, Dr. Portnoy was an associate at Mercer Street Medical.
Currently, Dr. Portnoy serves on the staff of Beth Israel Medical Center, St. Vincent's Hospital and the New York Eye and Ear Infirmary.
Dr. Portnoy's associates are Loni Burke, a Certified Speech Pathologist and graduate of the Columbia University Teacher's College, and Audiologist Miriam Romero, who earned her MS Degree in Audiology from CUNY's Hunter College. Between the two, Chelsea Ear, Nose and Throat is able to provide a full range of diagnostic and therapeutic services for the community.
