Since the earliest proto-humans learned to walk upright on the savannahs of East Africa some 2-4 million years ago, feet have taken a lot of punishment. Considering what is asked of them, it is small wonder more people aren't complaining of aching feet. Easing the "agony of de feet" is the focus of the Foot Health Center LLC, a practice managed by Drs. Michael V. Verdi, DPM, FACFAS, and Karyn L. Goldberg, DPM AACFAC. Together, Drs. Verdi and Goldberg provide comprehensive podiatric therapy and treatment for the community of Essex County.

Foot Health Center LLC is a full-service clinic equipped to deliver state-of-the-art diagnosis and care of the feet and ankles. Services include x-rays, physical therapy, diabetic care, orthotics, and office, outpatient and hospital surgery. Laser treatments are also available when indicated as well as Extracorporeal Shockwave Therapy (ESWT) and Endoscopic Plantar Fasciotomy (EPF). 

ESWT is a non-surgical method for treating tendonitis and plantar heel spurs (inflammation of the heel) among other conditions, using high-intensity acoustic radiation, or sound waves. According to FDA regulations, this treatment can be used only for cases in which the patient has suffered from the condition for a minimum of six months and has undergone at least three other treatments. EPF is another method of treating heel spurs that is less invasive than surgery.

Dr. Verdi practices in a wide range of podiatric specialties, including Sports Medicine. He completed his residency at St. Barnabas Medical in 1995 and was certified by the American Board of Podiatry three years later. Currently, Dr. Verdi is a member of several professional organizations, including the American Podiatric Medical Society and the American Diabetes Association. Currently, he is on staff at St. Barnabas and is a Fellow of the American College of Foot and Ankle Surgery.

Dr. Goldberg is a specialist in Geriatric (Elderly) Foot Care and podiatric surgery. She too is certified by the American Board of Podiatry, earning her medical degree in 1997 at the Temple University School of Podiatric Medicine.

A third associate at Foot Health Care LLC is Dr. Krista Archer, who joined the staff in 2006. Dr. Archer also earned her degree at Temple University and has had many papers published in leading medical and scientific journals.
