TStevenRooseveltMD-com.jpgThose who suffer from congenital (Type I, or childhood onset) diabetes can live a completely full and normal life, provided that blood sugar levels are tightly controlled at all times and consistent check-ups are performed on a regular basis.

Treatment of diabetes and conditions of the endocrine system is the sole focus at Idaho Diabetes & Endocrine Associates, a practice managed and operated by Dr. T. Steven Roosevelt. The purpose of the clinic’s services is to diagnose and treat only those diseases related to the endocrine system which releases and circulates hormones throughout the body. Being an endocrinology clinic, this means that other diseases and conditions that may be addressed include:

- Type II Diabetes (adult onset) – Hyperthyroidism – Hypothalamus dysfunction – Endocrine cancer

If it is determined that a patient’s condition or symptoms is not endocrine-related, s/he will be referred back to his/her primary care physician.

Dr. Roosevelt is recognized as one of the preeminent endocrinologists in the Pacific Northwest. Following the completion of an undergraduate degree in zoology at UCLA, he went on to earn his medical degree at the University of Utah School of Medicine (home of the world’s first artificial heart) as well as a Ph.D. in anatomy. After graduating from the U of U summa cum laude, he spent a total of six years at an intern at Barnes & Wohl Hospitals in St. Louis, Missouri. He completed his medical training in endocrinology at Harbor-UCLA Medical Center in Torrance, California in 1979.

Recently, Dr. Roosevelt took on an assistant, Sarah M. Lane, PAC. Also holding an undergraduate degree in zoology, Ms. Lane earned her Master’s Degree in Physician Assistant Studies in 2007 based on her successful defense of a thesis on Hashimoto’s Thyroditis, a autoimmune condition in which the body’s own immune system attacks and destroys the thyroid gland and affects primarily young women.

Idaho Diabetes & Endocrine Associates has emergency after-hours services available; patients requiring minor treatment after 8 PM are instructed to go to the McMillan Urgent Care Center on Five Mile Road.

Dr. Roosevelt has been certified in Internal Medicine and Endocrinology since 1983, and has completed over 2000 additional hours in diabetes patient education. He is at present the only Idaho physician who is qualified as a Certified Diabetes Educator.
