Vision therapy helps patients to develop their brain’s ability to manage eye alignment, focus, bifocal vision, eye movements, and visual processing. Visual therapy is especially recommended for children and adults with visual challenges like learning-related visual problems, poor eye coordination, strabismus, amblyopia (lazy eye), stress-related problems like blurred vision, eyestrain and headache, traumatic brain injury sufferers, and those needing better visual skills for sports performance.

 

Dr. Dean also focuses on comprehensive eye examinations and testing, for early diagnosis of problems and to assess important visual skills. Dr. Dean’s extensive testing assesses visual acuity at close ranges, eye teaming skills (use of both eyes together), eye focusing skills, eye movement skills, and reversal frequency (confusion or reversal of letters or words). Dr. Dean recommends that pre-school children receive a complete visual exam at six months, three years, and five years of age, and particularly that they get an assessment the summer before entering kindergarden. She also recommends an annual eye exam for adults, to prevent problems like glaucoma from developing undiagnosed.
