Johnson & Ward is a full service litigation law firm, originally established in 1949 as Phillips & Johnson. Since that time, their main client base have been ordinary people who have suffered injury or lost family members to aviation, auto and railroad accidents, professional negligence and corporate malfeasance. Johnson & Ward is listed in the Martindale-Hubbel Bar Register of Preeminent Lawyers, and has consistently achieved an AV rating from that organization.

Members of Johnson & Ward maintain active membership in the Association of Trial Lawyers of America, the Georgia Trial Association, and the Atlanta Bar Association and have all held various offices in those professional organizations; five of the firm's partners were founding members of the GTA. 

Partners from the firm are also involved in the education and training of lawyers at the Georgia State University School of Law and teach courses through the Emory Trial Advocacy Program. Former members of the firm have gone on to serve as trial and appellate judges in both state and federal courts.

Johnson & Ward prides itself on their participation in the Atlanta Bar Association's Indigent and Pro-Bono Panel of attorneys, whose mission it is to provide legal counsel and assistance free of charge to those in the community who cannot afford legal representation. Associate Clark H. McGehee was also recently recognized for his pro-bono work on behalf burn victims of the 11 September 2001 collapse of the World Trade Center in New York City. He was one of only fifteen attorneys from law firms across the US selected to provide these services.

According to Georgia Trend Magazine, three associates at Johnson & Ward were selected as three of Georgia's "Super Lawyers" for 2008; one of the partners, William C. Lanham, recently concluded a two-year terms as chairman of the American College of Trial Lawyers.

In addition to litigation involving wrongful death, personal injury and contract disputes, the lawyers at Johnson & Ward also represent those who have been wrongfully terminated, the victim of harassment and retaliation by an employer and the enforcement and defense of contracts and various legal agreements including severance, non-disclosure, trade secrets and non-compete agreements.
